SOGI Youth Survey Data

National research studies have helped define the unique needs of LGBTQ+ youth, but local data is hard to come by. However, knowing the local needs and challenges that LGBTQ+ face can help communities understand the targeted population better, make more informed decisions, and identify gaps in supports and services.

In the largest effort to gather local data in the region, the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Youth Advocacy Council (SOGI YAC) has developed and distributed an annual survey since 2016. Survey questions focus on community climate, safety concerns, counselor and mental health service preferences, and resource needs for youth and caregivers. Below are the reports from the 2018 youth survey.

SOGI YAC is committed to making the Great Lakes Bay Region safer for all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. These findings are available to the public to further this mission. For additional analysis or questions about methodology, please send us a message on the Contact page.
